Interviewing people has been an interesting, eye-opening experience. It has really made me appreciate those in the media who conduct interviews. You really have to have a quick-thinking brain. You have to be able to listen to the answers being given by the interviewee and pivot off of their answers. I hope to be able to hone that skill in my own life, even if my job doesn't call for that.
It has also made me realize that when you are getting to know someone, it helps to not answer yes or no questions. Some people are introverted. Heck, I definitely am. I can realize when I have the ability to cut a conversation short when someone has asked me a yes or no question. Conversations take more time and effort when people pose deeper questions. It also requires you to be a better listener. It would be fun to go back and study some of the more famous interviews that have happened in history after taking this course, such as the Frost-Nixon interviews. It would be a learning experience to see the kinds of questions he asked and what some of the follow up questions were.
