Why is professional writing important?
In a world where it feels like AI is incrementally taking over aspects of our lives, especially in areas where creativity is needed, I have realized there is no substitute for organic and creative professional writing. It is possible for AI to fulfill these assignments, but the results are predictable and lack creativity. We were assigned an assignment this week to write a short video script. I was curious so I asked AI to write a humorous short video script for the brand I had chosen. (I didn't use any of the results in the assignment I turned in. 😊) The script was ok, but to be honest, it wasn't very funny. Humbly speaking, the one I wrote was much funnier. In my experience, AI has a long way to go with humor. Do we need professional writing in all aspects? Maybe not. But if we care about the best possible outcomes, real human writing is far superior.
What do I hope to gain from this course?
I am excited to learn from this class. I always thought it would be fun to be a sports writer. Although I have chosen a very different career, I still think that. I believe it is something at which I would excel. I definitely need additional education and training on the subject matter, but it would be something I am passionate about and a job I would enjoy. I anticipate this course will be very valuable for me for that reason. For example, I would love to learn more about what it takes to write an effective news article or newsletter. It would be a very valuable skill, especially in a world that is always pining for more content. For this course, I anticipate learning how to write in several different mediums and am looking forward to it.
