After the manner of their language

Communication is a fascinating thing we have to learn in this life. Recently on social media, a politician posted the following, "My point still stands: six months is nowhere near enough time to learn a language and carry on a real conversation. Realistically, it takes a minimum of two years-anything less is pure fantasy." I served a mission in the Philippines and have experience learning to communicate in a non-native tongue. It took me about 6 months in the country before I felt comfortable conversing with others and not worrying about it. Looking back, it really is not a significant amount of time. It shouldn't come that quickly and probably wouldn't without divine intervention. There is an older man in my ward that served in the same mission but decades ago. He did not have the luxury of learning Tagalog in the MTC. It was not as easy, but he was able to do it eventually.

I think this relates to any form of communication, not just foreign languages. My youngest son, Owen has ADHD. My wife and I have learned over time we have to communicate with him differently. Getting angry at him when he is distracted does not help the situation. It requires lots of patience, but we have learned how to effectively talk to him. Positivity is far more effective with him than negativity.

People are more receptive when they are comfortable. Part of making others comfortable is finding a way to communicate with them effectively or "in their own language".

Conversely, when we don't understand or relate to our audience, it can cause problems. We were talking to my nephew about how he shouldn't post things on social media that are inappropriate. He said it was silly because he was posting things for his friends. He doesn't understand that a future boss may be an unintended audience member and it could reflect poorly on him.

Jesus was a master communicator. It would have been amazing to watch him communicate with others. He was so good at it that at the young age of 12, he was able to communicate effective with teachers gathered around the temple.
